FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

  1. Are study groups mandatory?  Yes.

  2. How many contact hours must be put in?  A minimum of 10 hours or 1.0 CEUs.  If you put in more than 10 hours and you document it, you can receive more CEUs.

  3. Is the study group the same as your target or growth focus?  Yes.

  4. How many people can be in a study group?  1-5 (or a department or grade level).  If the number is too large, split into 2 separate study groups.

  5. Can you have an independent study group?  Yes, and it will still equal your target.

  6. What can I focus on in a study group?  The end result must focus on improving student achievement.

  7. Who leads the study group?  Choose a facilitator or rotate facilitators.  You need to sign up date, times and signature each time you meet.  Keep a record to obtain CEUs.  CEUs will not be granted without documentation.

  8. What resources are available?  If you need money for resources, please contact your building principal.

  9. Why are we considering a study group model?
    a.  Because teachers requested time to work together
    b.  Because teachers asked to have time to develop curriculum instruction for their students
    c.  Because teachers need to take ownership of their teaching and learning
    d.  Because this model allows for more in-depth/focused professional development instead of a one-shot deal.

  10. Can I use a reflection journal and student work as an activity for my target?  Yes.

  11. Does a study group have to document work?  Yes.  You can document through minutes, notes, journals and final product.

  12. May the group submit one final study group plan for the group?  Yes.  The group can present informal presentations the last half day in-service on May 16th.

  13. May I go to a conference as part of my study group?  Yes.  Be selective.  Manage through diversity.
