PRESENTING EFFECTIVE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH THE STUDY TEAM CONCEPT
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 2004-05 STUDY GROUPS – K- 12
To develop mini-lessons for teaching critical stance using non-fiction reading selections. This will promote student understanding of critical stance objective on the CMT. To develop inquiry based learning in science labs that correlates to the new CMT performance tasks in science. To design integrated units of study on writing to learn with mini lessons on summarizing and synthesizing information.
To refine strategies for using writers
workshop based upon the Columbia Writing Project. To implement and
present these strategies to students and staff. IN-SERVICE DAYS 2004-05 August 2004 – Explain the study group concept – overview K-12 opening; in depth staff meetings at each school. October 21 – study group work (sign up and formation of groups at staff meeting before October 20th. October 22 – Betty Hollas – motivating reluctant learner/differentiated instruction “ Keeping Motivation in a standards Era” + “strategies that Support Differentiated Instruction K-8” January 28 – technology + study groups + ? March 24 – technology + study groups + ? May 16 – share
study group results at each school CONSULTANTS Hire a consultant for K-3 focusing on reading and writing – (will come to school 5 days during the year.) Train teachers in investigations/ Scott Foresmann/Holt |
